Ukrainian IT Architect builds a unique house with a bomb shelter, solar panels and fish on the balcony

A small room without any window. Carrots, peppers, cucumbers, onions, lettuce, dill, radishes, avocados, several paulownia trees and even viburnum grow here. The plant’s containers are filled with expanded clay, and next to there is a plastic box with fish. This is how the aquaponics system functions, providing a family of 2 adults and three children with fresh vegetables and fish throughout the year, says Andriy Podanenko.

Andriy is an IT Architect and CEO of ITCare, who has been working in the industry since 2002.

In February 2022, when the russian invasion started, her family lived in a cottage town near Vyshhorod (Kyiv region). They had to leave home because real battles were taking place 3-10 km from it, and fragments of downed missiles were falling on the street.

A year later, Andriy completes a new house. It is a very innovative building with an autonomous water supply, diversified sources of electricity and a separate bomb shelter, which is not inferior to a full-fledged residence and contains supplies of food, water, sewage and even heating.

He told me about the unique project in the interview for DOU.ua.
